With the arrival of fresh snow, there’s no denying it – winter is here! We’ve rounded up some great spots in Summit County to get you prepared for winter.

Update your clothing and gear

Pro Tip: If you’re using old gear, make sure your bindings and boards are in good shape. Early season can be icy, so make sure your equipment is freshly tuned and waxed. Luckily, these shops do it all.

Try the local shops for top-quality gear and clothing, boot-fitting services, tune-up services and demo and performance rentals. Look to Alpine Sports, Carvers Ski, Board and Sport, Podium Sports, Rocky Mountain Underground or any of the others listed here. Right now, Podium is offering 40% off all base layers so you can dress for even the coldest days. If you're at the Park Avenue/Airport Road location of Alpine Sports, be sure to grab a hot coffee or treat yourself to a mimosa or cold beer at the in-house Mugshot Cafe.

Prep your body

Winter preparation isn’t just about the gear. Take the time to strengthen and stretch your body to prevent injuries this season. Choose a gym like Peak One Fitness in Frisco, Breckenridge Recreation Center, Elevation Fitness in Dillon, Silverthorne Recreation Center or one of the many others listed here

Also look to yoga and Pilates studios to build strength and flexibility while easing your mind and tapping into the power of health. Try classes at Summit Hot Yoga, Harmony Health Massage & Wellness Spa, Meta Yoga Studios, Rocky Mountain Underground, Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center or any of the others listed here.

Hit the open slopes

Ready to hit the slopes? Lucky for you, all of Summit County’s ski areas will be open by this Friday. Arapahoe Basin and Keystone are open, and Copper Mountain and Breckenridge are scheduled to open this Friday, November 8.

For first tracks at Copper Mountain, head to the American Eagle lift at 9 a.m. Stop by Ten Mile Tavern to join the Ten Mile Tavern Mug Club and get a free Pray for Snow Candle when you buy a 10 Barrel Beer.

Celebrate Opening Day at Breckenridge with Boogie Woogie, a concert featuring Jamaican reggae and dance hall artists Yaksta and Split Window. This event is a fundraiser for World Music Development and Summit Habitat for Humanity.
