Labor Day in Summit County

Labor Day is the official end of summer and the start of fall, which means lots of fun autumn festivals, awesome store sales and a couple more months to play outside before the snow comes. This week there are even some special events for your favorite furry friends.

Labor Day Weekend Sale

The 10K Merchants Association presents the Breckenridge Main Street Labor Day Sale September 1 to 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 200 shops from downtown are participating. Yellow balloons indicate which stores you should pop into for killer back-to-school styles and great deals on this year and least year’s trends. Check online for a full list of participating shops.


Kick off the holiday weekend on Friday, September 1, at Keystone with Brats, Belgians and Brews. Starting at 6 p.m., a team of Belgian draft horses will bring you to the historic Soda Creek Homestead to feast on German sausages and beer. There will also be a cowboy entertainer and horseshoes for tossing.

Then, on Saturday, September 2, it's the fifth annual Oktoberfest in River Run Village from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Summer Concert Band, Those Austrian Guys and  the Edelweiss Schuhplattlers Polka dancers will entertain throughout the day. There will also be a huge Tent Sale and New Belgium Brewery seasonal beer sampling. Burn off the German treats at the Das Bier Burner 5K benefiting SOS Outreach and receive a pint of craft bier as you cross the finish line. Kids can enjoy face painting, a bounce house and other activities.

Doo Wop Denny Rockin’ Oldies Concert

Throw it back to the '50s and '60s with Doo Wop Denny at the Silverthorne Pavilion on Friday, September 1, at 7 p.m. It’s time to break out your '50s attire and get those dancing shoes ready to go. Reserve a table and tickets ahead of time. There will be a cash bar, and guests are encouraged to bring their own snacks.

Gathering at the Great Divide

This weekend head to Breckenridge to see the Gathering at the Great Divide. Ranked #64 in the top 100 fine art shows in the United States, you will not want to miss this free art show. More than 100 artists will be showing and selling their finest work. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday.

Copper Country Music Festival

This weekend enjoy Copper Mountain’s Labor Day tradition, the Copper Country Music Festival. The free event brings together internationally known music, fine art from the West and endless kids’ activities. The line-up this year includes War, Vintage Trouble, The Spinners, JD McPherson, The Long Players and the Country Showdown. The Artist Village is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Taste of Keystone

Bring your appetite to the 30th Annual Taste of Keystone to try some of Keystone’s best cuisine. Sunday, September 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Lakeside Village, enjoy the outdoor tasting venue, delicious treats and activities. Guests can buy Taste Tickets at the event for $1 each.

Marina Mutt Show

Whether you own a pup or not, check out the annual Marina Mutt Show at the Dillon Marina on Monday, September 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. Enter your talented furry friend into a best trick, howl or pet/owner lookalike contest. There will be great prizes from local sponsors and a silent auction table. All proceeds from the event go to the League of Animals and People of Summit. Register your pets anytime until 1:45 p.m. the day of to compete.

Pool PAW-ty 

It’s pool day with the pups at the Breck Rec Center from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 4. There will be three different one-and-a-half-hour sessions when dogs can swim. There are only 30 dogs allowed per session, so reserve your spot early. Cost is $10 per dog, and owners must provide proof of vaccinations.
