Mardis Gras and Winter Magic in Summit County

It's a festive week here in Summit County. In the spirit of the Olympics, there are several winter sport competitions and tournaments happening. Summit is also welcoming people and pups to celebrate Mardi Gras with parades and costumes galore. 

Wax + A Beer

On Thursday, February 8, come to Wax + A Beer presented by the Ski Doctor, Frisco Lodge and Prosit. From 3 to 6 p.m. at Prosit, you can get your skis or snowboard waxed and a beer for only $25.

Mardi Gras Dog Parade

Show off your furry friends in fabulous costumes at the Mardi Gras 4Paws parade and costume contest on Saturday, February 10, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Head to Abbey’s Coffee for Yappy Hour and make sure to get some of the Lost Cajun’s gumbo and beignets. All proceeds will benefit L.A.P.S. Pre-register and check the full schedule online.

Valentine’s Comedy Show

Sunday, February 11, come to the Valentine’s Comedy Show with Paul Reiser at 7 p.m. at Silverthorne Pavilion. The Oscar and Emmy award-winning comedian, actor, TV writer, author and musician is sure to put on an amazing show. Tickets are available online.

50+ Winter Games

The Summit County 50+ Winter Games are in their 38th year and will run from February 6 to 13. Competitions and events will take place at Keystone Resort, Breckenridge Resort, Frisco Nordic Center and the Summit County Community and Senior Center. The week will consist of free alpine ski racing clinics, a silent auction, dinner, skating and alpine events, Nordic skiing, a snowball toss and snowshoes races. Registration is $35 per person, plus $15 per person for the opening night dinner and silent auction. Registration and schedule details are available online.

Pond Hockey Tournament

The Dawg Nation Pond Hockey Tournament and benefit auction will take place from Friday, February 9, to Sunday, February 11, on West Lake at Copper Mountain. There will be different divisions for varying ability levels, and games will be played with a four on four format and will have two 15-minute periods. Rosters can have between 4 and 8 people. Saturday night will be a party including live music, a live auction, a cash bar, celebrities and more. The primary recipient of the fundraiser will be Dave Repsher, a Flight for Life nurse and Summit County hero.

Mardi Gras

Get your boas, beads and masks out in preparation for the Mardi Gras party on Main Street in Breckenridge on Wednesday, February 14. Starting at 4:30 p.m., come watch the annual Mardi Gras parade. From 5 to 7 p.m. the Lowdown Brass Band will play a free concert at the Riverwalk Center. There will also be a Paulaner Salvator Festival at the center. The first 100 people to arrive will get a free beer. Make sure to try some King Cake, gumbo and pretzels at the New Orleans-style bash. Register your float or group for the parade here.

Ice Castles

Don’t miss an ice and LED light spectacular. Ice Castles in Dillon takes up a full acre and is a must see this winter. There are fire performances at the Castles every Friday and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. Buy tickets here to reserve your spot.
