New Year's Resolutions for the Mind, Body and Soul

By Samantha Blair | Monday, December 30, 2019

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with their family and friends. As we say goodbye to 2019 (and week of a few too many cookies and beverages), we are looking forward to 2020 and all the ways we can continue to grow in the new year.

We spoke with Kimberly Gorai, the owner of Meta Yoga Studios, to see if she had any resolutions she could share with readers. Gorai says her yearly resolution is to be focused and balanced. “Balance of body. Balance of mind. Balance of soul … Giving to these three areas of my life with wellness opportunities helps me find gratitude in every day. I can't ask for much more than that.”

We’re taking Gorai’s advice and listing a few ways you can care more for your mind, body and soul in 2020.

When we think of the mind we often think of meditation and yoga. However, Breckenridge Creative District provides many opportunities to exercise and express the mind. Whether you are an artist, writer or musician, or you just want a space to get the creative juices going, BreckCreate hosts events and gatherings frequently. If yoga is more your speed, Gorai recommends going at least twice a week in order to maintain presence and focus and to prepare the body for physical activities. Check out these studios in the new year: Meta Yoga Studios, Summit Hot Yoga, Peak Yoga and Bhava Yoga, among others.

Luckily, there are a million ways to take care of your body in Summit County. Whether you’re skiing, hiking, biking, running, touring, climbing, etc., make 2020 the year of adventure. Sometimes our New Year’s goals are so big and our plans so grand that we forget to stop and take care of ourselves in between. Try treating yourself to a massage or spa treatment every once in a while to keep your body feeling top-notch. Harmony Health & Wellness Spa can help with different massage, therapy, oxygen, skin and Reiki products.

Spiritual goals are typically personal, and there is no blanket solution to keep spirits high in the new year. However, if there is one thing I am sure of, it’s that being surrounded by good, caring people and being a part of your community can keep hearts full and spirits healthy. Whether you are a visitor or local, check out our community page. Here you can find daily meals, volunteer opportunities, activities, events and meetings for anyone who would like to attend. Find time to share your happy soul with others, and see if we can make 2020 a kinder and more connected year for everyone.
