Good Times and Special Deals in Summit County

By Samantha Blair | Tuesday, October 30, 2018

It’s the season of transitions. Our pumpkins are rotting (or freezing), we’re coming down from our sugar highs, and ski season is upon us. This week, take advantage of shoulder-season deals and events around the county.

Candy Give Back

For the fifth year in a row, Frisco’s schools and the Stork & Bear Co. are helping the county's kids spread out their Halloween sugar rush. Kids can donate excess candy through November 6 to Operation Gratitude to be enjoyed by veterans and active-duty service members. Children are also encouraged to include notes of support and thanks. Drop-off points include the Info Center on Main Street, the Peak School, Stork & Bear Co., Frisco Elementary and Summit County Preschool.

Pumpkin Composting

HC3 is offering free pumpkin composting. Look for the labeled dumpsters at the Frisco and Breckenridge Recycling Centers through November 11. All pumpkins will be composted into soil to use next growing season.

The Day of the Dead festival commemorates those who have passed away with a colorful celebration. The event features community-built altars, installations, face painting and hands-on workshops.
