October Kicks Off Fall in Summit County

The fruits of the hall harvest are ready, and it’s time to celebrate. Head to some of your favorite local restaurants and parks this week for festive fall activities.

Harvest Gathering 

Come taste more than 100 wines, beers and spirits along with food pairings from local restaurants at Basecamp Wine and Spirits’ Harvest Gathering, this Thursday, October 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant will host the grand event featuring a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will be split between the Peak School and the Education Foundation of the Summit. Tickets are $40 online or $45 at the door.

Full Moon Photography

Learn to shoot the full moon in the serene setting of the Valley Brook Cemetery with local photographer Steve Johnson on Thursday, October 5. The full moon evening is for photographers of all levels. Reservations are required, and the cost is $20 per person. A close-up and zoom lens, tripod and flashlight are recommended but not required.

Arctic Placer Park Re-Opening

The Arctic Placer Park is finished and ready for play! The Grand Re-Opening will be at the Silverthorne park from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 5. The community supported project features a new retaining wall, design and play equipment created from the input of Silverthorne Elementary students.

Self-Publishing Workshop

Have you ever wanted to publish your own book? Join Polly Letofsky, owner of My Word Publishing, on Saturday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the South Branch Library in the Hope/Discovery Room. The Self-Publishing 101 Workshop will explain all you need to know to get started on publishing your own book. No registration is required.

Pumpkinfest

Kaiser Permanente and the Town of Silverthorne are sponsoring Pumpkinfest, a free, fun fall event on Sunday, October 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rainbow Park. Mountain Lyon Café will have their food truck there, and kids can enjoy barrel train rides, a bounce house, games, carriage rides, a petting zoo, cookie decorating and a free pumpkin from the patch.

Sunday Live Music

On Sunday, October 8, head to the Sauce on the Blue for Sunday Music from 3 to 5 p.m. Steve Plummer, a.k.a. Old Herman, is a singer songwriter and recording artists who sings classics, mountain picking and classic tunes.

Tuesdays at Bakers' Brewery 

Tuesdays are a blast at Bakers’ Brewery, and if you haven’t experienced them yet, come on October 10 for a good time. Brewery pints are $3 all day, and starting at 7 p.m. is locals Free Tuesday Poker Night. All levels are welcome. You must be 21 years or older to attend.
